NBA playoffs selections

I decided to make a selection in 5 of the eight series. One of my gaming rules is never have
action or an opinion about each event on the board. Takes too much time and you'll invest
too much "paper".  Normally I would only go with 3 picks but I 'll amend that rule today.

Take Indiana over Orlando. Magic limps into the playoff and were not playing well with
Dwight Howard. No Dwight, No Advance! Pacers playing well and have home court advantage.

Take San Antonio over Utah. Tim Duncan is playing like he has one more title run in him and
Tony Parker has been solid. Coaching advantage to the Spurs.

Take Boston over Atlanta. Boston came on strong to take division championship and develop
a bench along the way. Rondo is the key. Hawks will do their usual cameo playoff appearance.

Take Lakers over Nuggets. Lakers will dominate inside and ride Bryant at the end, if they need
it. Too many weapons.

Take Memphis over the Clippers.I struggle with this pick. I like Chris Paul and love the dunks,
but Grizzlies style is better suited for playoffs. They are better in half court sets and can run if they
have to.

You got my picks! Now Follow back and tweet me with your's.  Enjoy the Games!

Pennsylvania Gaming soars in March 2012

The Pennsylvania Gaming Board reported that the month of March was outstanding for Table Games and Poker. The revenue was at an all-time high. The amount was $7,257,927 million dollars. This is
an increase of 13.3% over March 2011. It should be noted that the amount of table games in operation
rose from 854 in 2011 to 1,028 statewide.

I selected Sands and Parx Casino to compare numbers and measure growth.

Sands increase the amount of table games ,including poker, from 100 to 152. This resulted in an increase
of 3,582,527 million dollars. The win per unit average fell from 85,373 to 79,736 but the revenue rose by 42%.

Parx increase the amount of table games, including poker, from 150 to 183. This resulted in an increase
of 1,197,099 million dollars. The win per unit average increase to 68,482 from 66,505. Exponentially, the result was a 11% rise.

The data substantiates that Pennsylvania is an expanding market and with smart growth, prime for greater numbers.

Think Like A Man (Review)

Just left Think Like A Man. I did not read the book but the concept created a buzz. The book written by Steve Harvey was number one on the best seller list. I predict that interest in the book will rekindle after
this weekend.
The movie is funny and pointed in it's delivery. Kevin Hart's character has the best lines and is humorous every time he is in a scene.
The other stars in the movie intertwine 4 relationships where the women have expectations that are not being met and use the advice from the book to bring about changes in the men they seeing.
The women range from CEO to single working mom. The men range from unemployed, players and "mama boy".
It is a typical battle of the sexes that the women gain ground but lose it when the men attempt to outsmart them by reading the book. The story lines all conveniently come together as the movie winds up.
Got to remember that it's a movie. It reminds you of a comedic version of Crash with the characters (male and female) having relationships as friends.
Shout out to Megan Good and Romany Malco for their chemistry. Taraji Henson and Micheal Ealy provide the steamiest on screen moments.

The soundtrack includes Jennifer Hudson and John Legend. It is very good and will be released on
April 30th. I recommend a buy for the soundtrack and a "go" see the movie. It will create conversation.

Hoop Picks

Sixers vs Magic in 1 Hour! This game has drama in it. The Sixers have allegedly turned Doug Collins
out accordingly to a source that use to cover the team. Hence the losing and fall from first place.
The Magic have internal issues between Stan Van Gundy and Dwight Howard. They are on a losing
streak and should not wake up tonight. Take the Sixers minus the 6.  The under is the play at 180.

Take the over in the Denver vs Golden State game. Total is 209.

Enjoy the games and your night.

Why Pennsylvania is the 2nd largest gaming market in the United States

Pennsylvania is the 2nd largest gaming market in the United States. This was a distinction formerly
held by Atlantic City. Although it may not be a fair comparison because one is a state and the other
a city, there are several reasons for this change.

One is the median income average of Pennsylvania residents. The national average in the United States
is $51,900. The average household salary in Pennsylvania is $50,300. This data tell there is money to be won in the Commonwealth.

Second is the strategic disbursement of casinos throughout the state. There is a casino in every section of the state. Geographically each casino is position near a demographic area that serves as a feeding ground of gaming patrons. The convenient gambler is accommodated by Pennsylvania and has no need to go outside the borders of the state.

Each casino is relatively new and able to market to it's own customer.Harrahs Philadelphia markets to
an international customer because of their player reward tracking system. Parx may not have the same brand name effect but can wow the guest with amenities. Sands gives the destination feel to a player that wants the overnight experience. SugarHouse is dominant due to the location being in the heart of
the 5th largest city in the country. Valley Forge will give a resort style of gaming that must market to convention and business meeting groups to be successful.

Revel in Atlantic City may off set the market slightly. Pennsylvania should withstand them and maintain a period of growth consistent with the economy. The growth should range up to 3% each year
for the next 3-4 years before saturation.

Valley Forge and Revel Casino

Valley Forge Casino opened on Saturday night. They have a resort license and are a category three gaming establishment. They are smaller than the typical Pennsylvania Casinos because they are limited by the amount of slot machines and table games they can offer.  They can have no more than 500 slot machines and 50 table games. The table games offering can expand if they choose to do a tournament for poker or blackjack.
The one thing that the gaming public will have a hard time accepting about Valley Forge is that it requires a membership, that one be a guest of the hotel or an expenditure of 10 dollars or more at the mall. Most people are accustom to just walking in and playing.
I think there is a market for Valley Forge. They can be exclusive in what they do and advertise effectively. They can be similar to Boyd's of Philadelphia in the clothing field. This spot is for a select group.

Revel is a combination of something old and a lot of things new. The old is the Borgata principle that they have offering that are exclusive to them. Revel is renting space to the top restaurant and chefs.
If that not enough, they are going after the hottest entertainment. Revel is having Beyonce as the headliner on Memorial Day Weekend. There is more focus on the amenities than the gaming.
The gaming floor is small in comparison to other casinos in Atlantic City. They instead wanted to stagger the public with the decor and breathtaking architecture. Revel is the first casino to embrace the ocean view front.
They have taken the approach of being a smoke free environment. How that  will be accepted by the gaming public remains to be seen. It is a winner from the position of the workers.
The term limits Revel has imposed on certain positions with the company also is uncharted. These concepts allow Revel to add an influx of new blood and energy to the work environment..
Change is good. It is the future. Game On at both of these properties.
