hosting a party.
Atlantic City has Don Rickles and Gladys Knight. Goo-Goo Dolls are at Caesars and Pitbull is at
Borgata on New Year Day.

Both cities have star studded attractions,but one is cater for a younger audience and the other is going
with proven industry standards.

My thought is diversity always works. Try a mixture of both to accomodate both demographics with a lean toward the niche group of your market.

My projections for 2012 are to expand the reach of my thoughts. I opened a twitter account
last week and placed the blog information on display. I have plans to go to at least two
gaming conventions,tweet consistently and engage in other individuals blogs.

I will be traveling to Atlantic City and Las Vegas during the first quarter of the year. Things will
go from a level of regional to national renown.

Took a visit to Delaware Park yesterday. Nice crowd on the gaming floor. Race and Sportsbook
appeared to have quite a few on lookers but not much action. Minimums on gaming floor were 10
dollars and up.

Head of Sands Corporation is not in support of online gaming. He feels that enough safeguards
are not in place.

open a casino next to the football stadium. They are weighing public support for the project.

The new casino in Valley Forge is starting it's marketing campaign this week. They are
scheduled to open in the spring of 2012.

Plans for I gaming in Washington DC will have a hearing before DC city council sometime
in January 2012.

The dealers in these pits are dressed anywhere from skimpy uniforms to provocative. This will make
males come into the area and play.  Since revenue is still down, that's good.

Two Atlantic City hotels laid off workers. This action was taken at one property that just received an
infusion of cash to keep it afloat. With the holidays approaching that was not a well time move. Also
a horrible PR move. Thats Bad.

Jay Z played BJ after his concert in Atlantic City saturday before going to his club 40/40.

gaming news in past 72 hours

Internet companies will be able to apply for licensing in Nevada. This comes as no surprise since so many
companies are forming partnerships. Casino Operators and Internet providers are preparing to move if
online poker is passed at some level.

The small boutique style casino is the future. Hard Rock announced  it's plans and stated that approximately
1200 permanent and 2000 construction jobs will be created. This project will take place in Atlantic City.

Internet Gaming in DC is entering the final turn. The DC city council is going to meet in December to
determine if and when I gaming will be implemented. It appears to be a strong possibility that this will be
the first place in this country with online poker.

Earlier in the week,the States of New Jersey and Nevada attempted to position themselves for future
gaming.
New Jersey is looking at a sport betting referendum and Nevada is putting regulations in
place that will authorize online poker.

In the last 23 hour the Casino Industry responded to the recent fall in the stock
market. To this point,gaming revenue has not been affected. If the Dow and the market continue to plunge, there could be a effect on entertainment budgets/discretionary income.
Today a report on New Jersey gaming revenue for the month of July is being
released. Commentary tomorrow on how Atlantic City did and what houses
posted positive numbers.

Hard Rock in 2014

In the past 23 hours,Hard Rock Casino has announced tentative plans to open
a casino in Atlantic City in 2014. It will be a boutique style hotel with 200
rooms. This will be the trend in most resorts that have gaming. They will open
with a smaller product offering and grow according to the market.

The New Atlantic City

The shift from day trip town to destination has begun. Since Atlantic City can
not compete for the drive down for a day player( he now drives to a casino closer
to his home) they are going after someone prepared to stay 2 -3 days.

The casino operators making a strong push to court the alternative lifestyle
community. They realize that is a market that has tremendous earning potential.

Finally,the reduction of labor during the beginning of the peak season is providing encouragement that things are on the upswing.Will this trend continue
remains to be seen.

Pennsylvania continues to post staggering numbers due to the table games offering throughout the state. Most of the revenue comes from the Philadelphia region,which accounts for 56% of the money.
New Jersey is leaning toward eliminating some funding that were dedicated to the horse tracks from the casinos. This is further the effort to promote the Atlantic City region. The end result will add money to the bottom line that will be used for capital investment and advertisement.

Review of R.Kelly concert and Tennis Selections

Bad Stuff is always first. 0 for Wimbledon with both selections going down.
R. Kelly show was awesome. Keshia Coles also perform and gave a solid
performance. She was on for 1/2 hour and did her hit Sent from Heaven.

R. Kelly was on stage for 90 minutes. His set included videos, old school from the beginning of his career up to his latest CD, Love Letter. He has
so many hits ,he was only able to do snippets of each song. But the crowd
was so into him, they did not mind. He open with Love Letter and the finale
was When a Woman Loves. He rip that so tough that the crowd thought the show was over and he did parts of two more songs as they exited the Mann.

He is at this point one of the best performers on the planet. The Mann is a great
place to see a concert and the weather complimented the performance.

Sands is going after another piece of the Atlantic City market with their hotel and retail additions. Now they are able to capture the overnight player. They stay longer and play more.There is no major mall outlet in the Leigh Valley. Sands
got a hand that equals a full house on this one!

Parx just open their high roller room. This will allow them to market toward a high end player that is use to the amenities that come with playing high limit.
Parx's move will be gauged base on the next 2-3 months of table games revenue.
Business should spike for that period.

The playoffs were not as kind as I would like but I will turn my concentration

Atlantic City commentary and Game Two Hoops Recap

Based on the past month, this is definitely a transition period for Atlantic City. The resort has cut staff
prior to the start of the summer season. They are two new owners/properties preparing to enter the market.
They are Revel and the Nugget. There is less regulatory presence than ever.
All of these changes do not equate to a better product. The resort is making the right move in becoming a destination and forsaking the day trip market.  That era is over. Tourism and Conventions are the areas
that Atlantic City should focus on. They will be Vegas East with the Beach.
The trendy places like the Pool,40-40 Club and the House of Blues will be features throughout the resort.
It's going to take a two to three year period for a new Atlantic City to take shape. 

Dallas won the game,the total went over and Lebron scored under 28. The night closed at 0 for 3.

Sands Hotel in Pennsylvania and Game One

Sands open a 300 room hotel over the holiday weekend. They are the 2nd
casino in Pennsylvania that has rooms and gaming. Mt Airy is the 1st.
The opening was soft but successful. The rooms were filled to 80% capacity.

Sands is also planning a retail mall as part of their next property development.
This mall will have approximately 25 outlets and position the hotel for mid-
week and convention business.

This is an outstanding idea. The Sands has moved from a day trip casino into
a destination that can attract and retain longer trips. Each of the moves will be
revenue generators.

Dallas plus the 4.5 tonight,also grab the over 187.
If there is a exotic bet out there of who will score the most between Dirk and Lebron,take Dirk.

Miami to win series, Dallas plus 4.5 in 1st game and take over 187 in game 1. Dallas has been hot and
covered a staggering amount of games from the end of the season up to now.
But if Oklahoma City knew how to close, that series would still be going on.
Miami will not have that problem because they have veteran leadership at the point position.

Resorts is doing some refreshing and provocative change starting this weekend. They are unveiling the new
roaring 20 style costume for their  beverage servers this weekend. They are also doing a circus arcade show
outside of the hotel that will take place three times a day throughout the summer. lastly, Resorts is opening
a nightclub that openly and aggressively pursues individuals that have an alternative lifetime. I see these changes as positive and ones that will reflect an increase in revenue. The timing is good since it coincides
with Memorial Day Weekend.

East Coast Gaming Congress recap

The Congress concluded with closing remarks from the CEO from Revel. He is a good speaker and
was candid with his comments. He mention using a new model of building a customer base. The focus
is more on the amenities and less on the gambling as a source of revenue. Revel should not be counted
on as a saviour for Atlantic City. They can be the battery that jumpstarts the town.

Dallas wins in 5!

I enjoyed going to the Congress and look forward to the next event. I am not sure when that will be,
but I plan to be in attendance.

Boston just lost so even if they win game 7, I don't get credit for that because I pick them in 6.

East Coast Gaming Congress

Day 2 of the congress started with members of the state legislature and the Mayor of Atlantic City
addressing the group.
They were followed by several CEO's of the top gamimg operations in the country giving their views
on their respective organizations and Atlantic City. They all gave reasons for making reductions in
labor costs. Only one mention a change in morale and a drop in customer service.

The survey that examine customer spending was presented. Booklets provided a graphic breakdown.
Internet Gaming was hailed as the next frontier for casinos. The question is whether a federal law or a state
mandate would be the best way to regulate it.There was not a consensus on what is the best way.

The wall street view was one that gave some hope.There is money for smaller projects with strong
balance sheets. The climate is still not right for mega investments for casinos.

East Coast Gaming Conference

A crowd of approximately 100 to 125 was in attendance at the networking event held at the Pool in Harrah's. The group was primarily lawyers,designers and gaming operators.
Many of the group also attended the Pennsylvania Gaming Congress in March. The best way to make
an impact is to become a regular participant.
This is the 15th year of the conference and a cake was brought out to celebrate that milestone.
The Atlantic City Press was covering the event.
The Pool is a very hip place. You think you are in a tropical paradise, only indoors.
The agenda for tomorrow include a Internet gaming panel, a view from Wall Street and a survey that examines the Atlantic City gaming customer's spending habits and preferences.

Get Smart Tip

When I prepare to attend conventions,I get rejuvenated. I have attended countless
conferences around the country,but the prospect of meeting new people and
exchanging ideas is always stimulating. The first convention I attended was 20 years
ago. I acquired information but did not meet one person.  Not One! 
I felt I was not on the level or as interesting as some of the more renowned people
in the room. I did not realize then that you had to be somebody to be in the room.
I was already there. I just had to let people know who I was, do it in 1minute or less
and be a good listener.
Once I mastered those three things, I gained confidence and started enjoying myself.
So go to conventions and conferences,network and exchange concepts and business
cards.

Knowing when to leave!

One of the most difficult thing to gauge is when to leave something.  A relationship and a job/career 

are at the top of the list. So much time is spent developing both make you seem a little empty when

you gauge the prospect of doing without them. Sugar Shane still fighting at 38. Now he did get a 

nice amount of money but he is tarnishing the image he worked many years to build.

One way to tell when it is time is to remove yourself from the process and ask what advice would

you give someone else in the same situation.  You have just diffuse the emotional attachment and based

your decision on analytical thinking.

Having a exit strategy helps too. (read Plan B from an earlier post)

It is imperative that anyone associated with Gaming and Entertainment spend part of their time

networking with other professionals.The magnitude of letting people know who you are and

you can do is huge. That separates the people that make it to the top from the ones that

languish at the bottom.Overcoming the fear of not being accepted or recognize for what you can

do is paramount. Don't let you stop you.

Last 24 hours

Yesterday,several casinos in Atlantic City eliminated supervisory positions in their respective
table games departments. This was in response to the deregulation that was passed into law a
little over a week ago.
No number was given as to the amount of positions eliminated.
The savings to the casinos is estimated to be in the millions. The business side of this move
is positive from a financial standpoint.
It is not the best move from regarding game protection. The successful properties will resist
this move initially but will consider following suit if revenue continues to shrink.

The schedule for the upcoming football season was released today. Football is the only game
that there is no off season. Fans will discuss and dissect their favorite teams throughout the
year. Who should we draft? Who is the best available free agent? What will our record be?

No one really has a clue.  But that is the beauty of the game.  Everyone thinks they do. Leads
to a lot of talk in the barbershops and beauty salons in every city.

After reviewing your favorite team's schedule,ask yourself the above questions. Write down your
answers and review them once the season starts.

The playoffs begin today and the action will be intense. The teams most likely to advance
to the next round are Miami,Chicago,LA and Oklahoma City.

Teams that have a strong defense and have minimal injuries tend to go further.
Games have a tendency to be low scoring because of more half court possessions and
use of the shot clock.

The Hockey Playoffs have started and the three teams that I think are most likely to advance to the next
round are Philly, Pittsburgh and Washington.

The games are usually low scoring in the playoffs so look for under opportunities.

Plan B

The Gaming and Entertainment Industry is going through some significant changes. The expansion of
casinos in new jurisdictions has led to deregulation in establish markets.
Deregulation leads to a reduction in staff.

The thought of how this may effect anyone that is currently working in the industry is the reason to have
a Plan B strategy.

Have your resume up to date.
Attend networking events to let people know who you are and what you have to offer.
Increase your knowledge base through reading magazines, periodicals and trade publications.
Find out who is hiring and if your skill set matches what the prospective employer is looking for.

Hopefully anyone that reads this will not be forced to utilize a Plan B strategy.

Once a week, I will do a Get Smart tip.The tip this week - understand what your customers
needs are. Ask front line employees what the customer wants from your organization.

At least once a year,bring in a outside expert to examine what you are doing and how you
could do it better.

Finally,measure your progress by customer surveys and compare responses with the
revenue generated after you have the opportunity to analyze the results.

If a major development occurs, I will give a brief statement as to what happen and a commentary as to the impact.The State of New Jersey is deregulating the staffing requirement for the casinos in Atlantic City.
This will mean the elimination of jobs and middle management positions.
The savings to the casinos will equate to millions of dollars annually because of the reduction of labor,
payroll and benefits.  The money that the casinos save will be spent on marketing and capital improvements.
The downside to this way of thinking is the customer service will drop. The level of accountability
between the remaining staff and upper management will decrease as well.
