Sports Business and Wagering this Week

This will keep you current with the industry. These post will include trends about the sports betting market and information about what state is planning to offer it next. This will be a winning situation for a sophisticated operator and his constituents.

Harrah's Philadelphia Casino open it's sports betting operation this week. This is a permanent facility and has 4,300 square footage of space. It has 45 large screens and 19 lounge seats. Harrah's has partnered with Scientific Games for the technological platform that will eventually include a mobile app offering. This is the 3rd casino in the Philadelphia area to offer sports wagering. The others are Sugarhouse and Parx.

The Super Bowl is approaching and is anticipated as one of the largest wagering events of 2019. More money will be wagered legally on this game than any other Super Bowl. This is not because of the match up but due to more states having sports betting. The handle would have been higher if New England were playing the Saints. The marquee match between Brady and Brees would have generated large prop action.

The states that are strongly considering adding sports betting next are New York and Maryland. Governor Cuomo is all in favor of New York having wagers on site at the casinos. Maryland wants to keep pace with the fast track legislation in Washington DC. How intelligent each of the sports betting operations are managed will determine success and profitability.

NFL Conference Championship Games

The matches are set for the NFL Conference Championship Games. Kansas City Chiefs will play the New England Patriots and the Rams will play the Saints. Before we make a selection lets talk about the divisional games. We picked Indy and Dallas and lost both games on Saturday, We hit with Patriots and the Saints under on Sunday. Record was 2-2. When you include Wildcard weekend the record is 5-3.

Chiefs have the most electrifying offense in the league. They are explosive and will score 30 like it's nothing. Their defense played outstanding against Indy. We are not sure if that was a one time performance. We are sure that Mahomes is MVP of the league. Tom Brady is on his way to his ultimate goal. This is his 8th straight Championship game. They match up earlier this year with the Pats winning at home. Kansas City returns the favor. More weapons than Pats. Andy gets the best of Bill this time.

Rams showed the ideal balance against the Cowboys. Two players rushed for over 100 yards. The defense controlled Zeke Elliott Brees led Saints from 14 point deficit against the Eagles. The Saints offense is not as prolific as they were prior to the loss to the Cowboys in the regular season. They finish drives now with field goals. That is not the formula for success  against the Rams. This will be a lower scoring game than the last time these two teams squared off. We see the under as the play. More time of possession drives for both teams. It is currently at 56.5.  Saints in a game that they win by 9. Payton gets the best of McVay again,

                                                    Enjoy the NFL games!

Sports Business and Wagering This Week

This will keep you current with the industry. These post will include trends about the sports betting market and information about what state is planning to offer it next. This will be a winning situation for a sophisticated operator and his constituents.

The Washington Wizards and NBC Sports Washington started a gambling focused telecast that gives the viewer the ability to make a bet in real time while watching the game at home. "If this performs well, we would seriously contemplate a larger rollout of similarly programmed events and potentially tie to an actual betting experience," said  Zach Leonsis, senior vice president for the ownership group, Monumental Sports and Entertainment.

In New Jersey, approximately 75% of the sports betting wagers were made online during the month of December. That percentage has increased every month since the start of legal wagering and the introduction of  mobile apps. This trend should not be overlooked. The numbers reported by New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement give the first sign of  market saturation. There is a correlation between a decrease in the amount wagered in New Jersey in December and the opening of sportsbooks in Pennsylvania.

In Pennsylvania, Harrah's Philadelphia and Valley Forge Resort will enter the sports betting retail market in 2019. The date has not been determined for either at the time of this post.

All of the home teams won during the Divisional round of the NFL Playoffs. Three of the 4 covered the point spread. While the Eagles were eliminated they went down fighting and covered as a 7 point underdog.

Sports Betting 101: The Point Spread and The Money Line

The point spread is what separates the winners from the losers. This makes a game that would have minimal interest generate betting action. Imagine the Sixers playing the Bulls. With no point spread, the only people that would bet on the Bulls would be their family members. When the point spread of 11 is attached to the game the public now will make a decision that is based on the value of the number. If the line was 25 then the value would lie with the Bulls. If the line was set at 1 then the advantage would clearly be with the Sixers. The 11 is a good example of a number that will generate interest on both teams.

The Money Line is the amount of money a bettor must risk to bet on a team without the spread. Your team must win the game. The amount you risk is based on the strength and popularity of the favorite team.  If the favorite is the Sixers over the Bulls, that money line would be -600 to get 100. But if you took the Bulls, the money line would be +450 if you bet 100. You can bet less than the stated amount but your payout is based on money line ratio. if you bet 6 dollars on the Sixers you would win $1. If you bet that same $1 on the Bulls and they win, you get $4.50.
With both of these wagers you get your money back plus your winnings if you pick the correct team.

NFL Elite Eight

We did well in the Wild Card Weekend round. Depending on when you got your bet down, Seahawks covered the 2.5 and pushed on the 2. Indy won outright and  the Eagles game went under. Ravens were not successful against the Chargers. 3-1 was the record.

So this week..

We like Indy with the points against the Chiefs. Indy has the formula that will keep the Chiefs at bay. Strong running game and long drives engineered by Andrew Luck. Mahomes had MVP season. This game will go over. Andy Reid exits playoff early again.

Cowboys have momentum. They are not as impressive on the road. Defense will travel and they will stop Todd Gurley. If you can find a prop bet that features Elliott vs. Gurley, take Zeke to have more rushing yards. Rams may have peaked too early. Take Boys and the points.

Patriots vs. Chargers. This one is easy. When you can get Brady and not lay a touchdown you take him. He is 7-0 against Rivers. Second straight cross country does not bode well. We are impress with the coach of the Chargers. But not over Belichick.

Eagles and Saints. Foles magic is still in the air. Dallas gave the blueprint on how to slow down Brees. It will work for a half.  Saints will finish more drives than Birds. If you must take this game go under. 50 is a lot in a playoff game.

Odds to Win Super Bowl Llll – from Westgate SuperBook in Las Vegas

Saints +225

Chiefs +450

Rams +450

Patriots +500

Chargers +900

Colts +1400

Cowboys +1400
                                                         Enjoy the games!

Sports and Business Wagering This Week

If you are looking for the latest in Sports and Business Wagering, you are at the right place. We plan to give you all of the trends and breaking developments that occurred. You will stay current on the hot topics that involve the operators and the people that like to bet on sports. Any state that is proposing Sports Betting will be highlighted.

The NFL announced that it is partnering with Caesars Entertainment. Caesars will become the official casino that will have rights to NFL trademarks in the United States and the United Kingdom.  The trademarks can not be used in a Caesars Sports Book. The partnership is for casino gaming only.

The big bet of the week was made at Ocean Resort Casino in Atlantic City. Someone put down 300,000 on the Ravens during Wild Card Weekend. That bet was a loser! Four days later ,it was reported that Ocean is looking for a buyer less than a year after a grand opening. Sport Betting alone is not the cure all for a gaming operator.

In Philly, the opening of the South Philadelphia Turf Club that is owned by Parx Casino, will increase the handle in Pennsylvania. The location is less than a mile from the sports stadium complex that serves as homes for the Phillies. Eagles, Flyers and Sixers.

Two major players to watch in the casino industry are Kambi and Tangam.  Kambi provides the software and platform for sports betting at Rivers Casino in Pittsburgh, SugarHouse Casino in Philadelphia and the aforementioned Parx. Tangam provides data analysis that help make effective decisions for the casino floor. This information is critical and provides revenue generating suggestions in real time.

Enjoy the NFL games this weekend!

Sports and Business Wagering this week

We will give you the latest news about Sports Business and Wagering that occurred in this calendar week. This will keep you current with the industry. These post will include trends about the sports betting market and information about what state is planning to offer it next. This will be a winning situation for a sophisticated operator and his constituents.
NFL Wild Card Weekend is about to start. Covers.com  reported that a bet of 100,000 was placed on the Cowboys within the last 24 hours. This wager was made at one of the MGM properties.
Parx Casino is about to open it's Sports Book on Tuesday in Philadelphia. This will be the 2nd site to open in Philly. Both locations will benefit if the Eagles make it pass the 1st round.
The Sports Betting bill in Washington DC does not open itself to a fair trade environment. There should be an open bid for the privilege of being a platform operator. There should be the use of the mobile app of choice as long as the user is within the District. When there is a rush to get things done you normally do it wrong.
Seventy Six Capital is participating in the CES in Las Vegas next week. This is a tremendous move that will advance Sports Business further into the technical and analytical aspects that the gaming industry has been slow to respond to. The Consumer Electronic Show brings the latest in cutting edge technology to the public. Follow Wayne Kimmel and his team via Twitter if you are not attending the show.

Each of the increasing popular Sports Betting 101 Series will be part of this so you can have each post together. Since we add a new post to that series every week you will always see the previous 3 with this feature. We encourage you to follow and stay relevant.

                                                      Enjoy the NFL games!

NFL Wild Card Weekend

Let's jump right in. We will start with the Colts against the Texans. Indy and Andrew Luck are playing well on both sides of the ball. Not fond of Bill O'Brien as a head coach and play calling in key moments. Colts must keep Watson under control and off the field, They showed they could do that against the Titans and Cowboys over the last weeks of the regular season. It continues against Texans.

Seattle against Dallas is up next.

Seahawks are a replica of Colts. They play outstanding defense and they run the ball down your throat. They beat Dallas earlier this season. Dallas is 2-8 in last 10 playoff appearances. Boys are tough at home. This is a solid under game. Russell Wilson is better than Prescott and will prove it Saturday.

Chargers and Ravens open the slate on Sunday. Ravens beat Chargers in Los Angeles two weeks ago.
Rivers played his worst game of the season. He will have Melvin Gordon back so that will help. Ravens defense is outstanding. Defense wins championships. Chargers playing the early game and traveling across country. West coast teams normally don't do well in this situation. Ravens win and sack Rivers 4 times.

Eagles versus Bears is the final contest of the weekend. Eagles are riding the magic of Nick Foles again. Less weapons than last year. Not as strong defensively as Bears. They may be equal offensively. We expect a low scoring game so under 41 is the play. The money on the game is trending toward the Bears and the line has moved by 1.5. We are content with the under.

Sports Betting 101: What is the difference between a straight bet and a parlay?

We will start providing some of the terminology is commonly associated with wagering on Sports Betting. We realized that many people are new to this experience so we want to introduce you to two of the plays that are popular to a seasoned player. A straight bet on a game is merely picking one play out of the many being offered and wagering on it. While there are odds associated with the bet it normally pays even money. So if you bet 105 you will win a 100. The additional 5 you put up is what is called the vig. That is the fee or cost of placing the bet. It will vary and be higher at some sports books based on the team you bet on.
A parlay is a series of multiple selections of two or more that are contingent on all of them winning or ending in a tie. The odds on this wager pay more than your standard straight bet and that makes this bet popular. They have a higher degree of difficulty and the odds of hitting decrease with each additional selection. So you can make a lot more money but you could lose your money quicker over time if this is your twist.
We would look at straight bets 1st and move toward parlays as you gain more experience in betting.
We strongly suggest you use Smart Responsible Gaming as a guideline for wagering on Sports and all casino. racetrack and lottery events.
