Theatre's Merceedes Simmons - Aspiring Person of the Week

 

 

 

 

                              2013 is the year of Merceedes Simmons.

She is currently a dealer in the high limit room of a Philadelphia
Casino.While proficient and accurate with cards, this is not her

only accomplishment. She is a graduate of Rowan University with
a degree in Theatre Performance and minor in Dance. 

 

 

 

She has also set her sights on Theatre and Cinematic Stardom.

"Ceedes" as she is affectionately called by family and friends is about to

make a screen debut in the movie "3 Women". This comes on the heels

of two strong performances in the play ,the Conversation by Floyd

Marshall in 2012.

This year brings a role in a play called "God Don't Like Ugly" and a recurring part in a television pilot titled Brotherhood of Silver. This show
is on Bounce/WUMC on Thursdays at 9:00 pm.

All this and working 40 hrs a week.

This breakneck pace is not undaunting to Ceedes.

She fears being typecast but is not afraid to play any role.

Merceedes possesses the physical attributes of the women
featured in GQ Top Sexiest Women of the Century.
She will be the next face that promotes your brand or
stars in your stage production. Merceedes combines her beauty
with a personality that is down to earth as you can be. Most of all,she is
intelligent and has a plan for success. That plan includes time for seven
questions.

1)What do you do when you're not working or practicing your craft?
Merceedes - I spend time with my family and working out. I am
working at learning what gets you in the door. I plan to take a class
at the Walnut Street Theatre on Techniques. This will help seperate
me from the people that half hearted about trying to make it.

2).Who is the person whose artistic style you would emulate if you
could and why? Merceedes - Meryl Streep. "She can play any role.
She comes across humble with capability and power."

3).What is your favorite restaurant?  Merceedes - "My Grandma
Kitchen. The food is always good and there is no dress code."
LOL.

4) What is your ultimate career goal? Merceedes - "I want to get paid
for what I love full time. If I could win an Oscar or Tony that would
be okay. But I really want to do what I love. Acting!"

5).What is the hippest city that you have been to? "Toronto. I love
how clean it is. Just like New York City, a melting pot."

6).You been fortunate to appear in theatre, film and now a tv show.
Your preference?
Merceedes - Theatre is my favorite.You get instant gratification from
the audience.

7). If you could be on the cover of any magazine, which one would it be?

IGNA - Day Two Recap

The 2nd day of the IGNA was led off by Frank Fahrenkopf, President
of the AGA. He offered his views of the internet gambling along with
the possibility of sports betting being legalized.
John Acres gave a stimulating address that challenged the audience to
do something that connects with their future customers.
The panel on expanded sports betting was led by Joe Brennan, Jr.,
Director of IMEGA. What made this session cool was the diverse
perspectives. A professional gambler and two gaming organization
from Canada and the United States gave the audience information
as well as humor.
The balance of the day included internet marketing strategies and
social media utilization.
The InComm Network Reception was held at the PBR Rock Bar
in the Planet Hollywood Casino.

South Philadelphia's Stephen Rinaldi - Aspiring Person of the Week

 

 

Stephen Rinaldi was born and raised in Philadelphia. He has been in the casino business for 6 years and currently works as a table games supervisor in his home town. When he is not at the casino working, Steve devotes most of his time to performing.  Steve attends open mics around the city to boost his confidence and stage presence. He would love to emulate the style of Robert Deniro

by committing strongly to character and

dedicating himself totally to a role. For example,

if Deniro is playing a cop for 3 months,

he does nothing but act like a policeman.

Steve is hoping that this type of commitment will lead to success.

You have him for seven questions right now.

 

1). What was the first role you ever played?  Rinaldi - "When I was 5 or
6, I played the 3 Stooges or Charlie Chaplin in front of my family and
friends. My grade school teacher would have me bring in food that my
father fixed and in return, would give me five minutes to perform in
front of the class."

2).Who is your favorite musical artist?  Rinaldi - "Frank Sinatra". When
you hear something from out of the womb, it hard to get it out of your
system."

3). What do you use for motivation? Rinaldi - My friend Patrick Bendeno,
who is deceased, taught me not to take time for granted. He died at a
very young age but encouraged me while we were together to pursue my
dreams. I was not acting at all between the ages of 14 - 21. After being
persuaded to get back into performing, I haven't stop since."

4). What is your favorite restaurant?  Rinaldi - "The Old Homestead
Steakhouse in Atlantic City at the Borgata Casino Hotel."

5). If you could play a romantic scene,who would play your co -star?
Rinaldi - "Halle Berry or Megan Fox. I can't choose."







6).What quote do you use for motivation? 

Rinaldi - "You'll never run around the bases unless you
swing at the bat" - Jerry Lewis.
This tells me to put everything into what I'm doing."


7). Share one of your New Years Resolutions with the readers?
Rinaldi - "I am working on getting into better shape and committing
myself spiritually by going to church."

Governor Christie Betting on New Jersey

Governor Christie vetoed the Internet Gaming Bill that would have

made New Jersey the 3rd state with on line wagering. He did so

with conditional suggestions. Christie stated he would sign the bill

if it included an increase in the tax on gaming revenue from 10 to

15%. The new bill must have more money for compulsive gaming

and have a 10 year term that on line wagering could exist.

 

Lawmakers have already stated that they will support these changes

and reintroduce a new bill reflecting the amendments. This new

bill could be on Christie's desk by the end of March. If signed by

April, on line gaming could be part of New Jersey by the end of the

year. I 'll provide further information and commentary from Las Vegas

Philadelphia's Angelo Johns - Aspiring Person of the Week

Angelo Johns is embarking on a red carpet journey. He currently works
at a Philadelphia casino but is transitioning into his dream job as a model.
Angelo has appeared in the film "Limitless" with Bradley Cooper. He is actively seeking a modeling agency to represent him. 
Angelo is confident that colaborating with an agency and using social media will bring success.
He took a break from his schedule for seven questions.


1). What is the coolest part about working in a casino?  Angelo - "The coolest part about working in a casino
is the interaction with the people.
I'm a people person that finds a way to entertain our guests and make them laugh, someway,somehow."


2).What designer's clothes would you rock 24/7 if you could and why?
Angelo - "I would have to say Versace because I like the look and the
style. The feel of his fabrics are amazing."

3). Who is the person whose style you would emulate and why?
Angelo -  I would pick Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. He wears
casual wear that's coordinated and smooth.I like to dress like that."

4). If you could play a romantic scene, who would be your co-star?
Angelo - "I would take Kim Kardashian. Enough said."

5).What is the hippest city that you have ever been in?
 Angelo -The hippest city I've been to is Miami, Florida.

6). What do you use for motivation as you purdue your dreams?
Angelo - "I use my everyday surroundings to motivate me. I also draw energy from people that say it can't be done. LOL."

7).Did you make any New Year's resolutions? Share one of them with the readers. Angelo - My resolution is to dedicate myself to my craft and take all of the big steps and risks to achieve my goals. I am willing to sacrifice some of the things I love for my dreams."

Beyonce Tour Dates,Super Bowl 47 recap and Timing

This was one of the best halftime performances at a Super Bowl ever.
Beyonce's show was only upstaged by the game. The Ravens and Niners

played well with the game in the balance until the final gun.

Ray Lewis leaves the game a winner and Joe Flacco gets his due with
the MVP trophy. The Harbaughs win while Randy Moss falls short again.

Destiny's Child reunion was nice. Don't think it would merit a reunion
tour. Beyonce has reached a plateau that does not require getting back
together professionally.

After doing a killer show in front of millions,Beyonce announces a world tour. The timing of the tour announcement was superb. Great PR!


Take a page from this and plan your moves. Position yourself and play
"chess" with your career strategy. Think things through and then put them
into motion.
