Philly Casino News - Wynn withdraws casino plans

This afternoon, Wynn Philadelphia withdrew their plans to build a casino on Delaware Avenue. The following statement was issued.

"The Wynn Resorts Board of Directors recently met to carefully examine the feasibility and opportunities associated with the company’s domestic development in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.  At this time, the Board has decided that the best course for the company is to pursue business opportunities elsewhere."
"The board took a host of factors into consideration, including the Philadelphia market performance over the past year and the competition which will result from the recent approval of gaming in the State of New York.  Consequently, the company will withdraw its licensing applications in Pennsylvania."

This comes as a surprise to many in this region. Wynn Philadelphia made many alliances in the community where the project was proposed. They have a strong balance sheet and have an international reputation.

Keating Consulting and Braithwaite Communications were instrumental in their presentation of Wynn Philadelphia as the perfect compliment to a mature gaming market.Dan Keating gave an overview of each proposed casino site. Wynn graded out well in feasibility.
Sarah Lindsay provided media access to the top executives from Wynn at the Pennsylvania Gaming Congress and at the Temple University School of Hospitality Management.

This move will increase the chances for the other 5 applicants. In the coming months, I expect an upsurge in terms of visibility and marketing from all of them. I will keep you posted.
